Boules Blitz 2026

The annual Frankfield Petanque Cork Boules Blitz took place recently on the 29th and 20th August.

Everyone turned up from near and far ready to play, and you could feel the competitive edge from the very first throw. Everyone played well, from the cool‑headed veterans to the newcomers who pretended they weren’t nervous but absolutely were.

And of course, the weather behaved exactly like Irish weather does: sunshine one minute, rain the next, then sunshine again just long enough for everyone to take off their jackets before the rain came back out of spite. It didn’t dampen the mood though

Competition

The competition format was to divide the teams across three sections, assigned at random. The teams in each section played each other in a round robin format. The top teams in each section progress through to the next day.

The second day the teams are allocated into premier, secondary and tertiary competitions based on their scores from day 1. This was also a round robin format with the teams finishing in top two places, playing off for overall 1st and 2nd position, and third and fourth placed teams playing off for overall 3rd and 4th.
