Membership Rules and Guidelines

All members of Frankfield Pétanque Club are expected to familiarise themselves with the following rules and guidelines. Adhering to these ensures a welcoming, fair, and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Code of Conduct

  • Treat all members, guests, and officials with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour, abusive language, or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Members must respect the club’s facilities, equipment, and grounds, leaving them in good order after each session.
  • Any disputes or complaints should be raised calmly with a committee member.

Playing Etiquette

  • Players must observe the official rules of pétanque as recognised by the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque.
  • Concede points graciously and congratulate opponents on good play.
  • Do not interfere with play on adjacent terrains or distract other players during their turn.
  • Boules and equipment should be handled with care and returned to the storage area after use.

Membership Obligations

  • Annual membership fees must be paid in full before the start of each season.
  • Members are encouraged to volunteer for club events, maintenance days, and other activities where possible.
  • Members should notify the committee in advance if they are unable to fulfil a commitment to a scheduled fixture or competition.
  • The club reserves the right to withdraw membership in cases of serious or repeated misconduct.

Guest Policy

  • Members may bring guests to casual play sessions, subject to terrain availability.
  • A guest may attend up to three sessions before being required to take out full membership.
  • The member who invites a guest is responsible for ensuring that guest is aware of, and abides by, club rules.
  • Guests are not permitted to participate in official league fixtures or inter-club competitions.

Club-Specific Rules

Play at Frankfield is held on our dedicated gravel terrains at our Cork venue. Sessions run throughout the year, weather permitting. The committee may suspend outdoor play during severe weather — members will be notified via the club mailing list.

  • Appropriate footwear must be worn on the terrains at all times; studded or high-heeled shoes are not permitted.
  • Alcohol consumption on the terrains during official fixtures is not permitted; social gatherings are at the committee’s discretion.
  • Dogs are welcome on a short lead but must remain off the playing terrains.
  • All members are responsible for litter disposal and for leaving the grounds tidy after each session.
  • These guidelines are reviewed annually by the committee. Members will be notified of any amendments at the AGM or by email.
