On the last weekend in August every year since 1992, we hold our biggest open competition, the Frankfield Boules Blitz. This is a unique doubles event that is held over two days. Day one is a qualifier event for day two in which the top six teams of day one compete in the Premier competition (The Gold Shield), the next six compete in the Frankfield Doubles Cup and the remaining teams in the third Doubles Competition. Our aim is to ensure that on day two of the event, teams compete in a competition at their own level.

The event attracts participants from many parts of Europe, including from as far afield as Lanzarote. In 2024 we welcomed teams from Marseille, Carmarthen, Surrey, Bath, Hampshire, Down, Belfast, Dublin, Mullingar, Waterford, Limerick and Cork.

Notwithstanding the keen competition throughout the weekend, the approach of the teams is always to enjoy, meet old friends and make new ones.
